About Us

ISKCON Sigatoka is a part of the global Krishna consciousness movement that was initiated by Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu at the beginning of Kaliyuga and later formalized and established in the western world as International Society for Krishna Consciousness by its founding acarya His Divine Grace A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in the early 1970’s a time when people had lost faith in God and were taking to drugs, illicit sex and meat eating and going down into degraded form of human life.  Srila Prabhupada, out of his compassion shared the sacred knowledge of the Vedas to the western world without compromising on the teachings and the philosophy by translating the ancient Sanskrit literature into English, holding public lectures, cooking and feeding his guests and establishing temples and centers throughout the world.  Please click here to read more about A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.

After Srila Prabhupada has left this mortal world, his disciples continued to follow his footsteps and grow the movement with the objectives it was established by Srila Prabhupada. One such disciple was His Grace Tamal Krishna Goswami Gurudeva who was in charge of Fiji Yatra. Click here to read how ISKCON began in Fiji. He made numerous visits to Fiji cultivating devotees who were connected and impressed by ISKCON. Please click here to read more about H.H Tamala Krishna Goswami Gurudeva. In the years that followed, ISKCON flourished and many people in Fiji began joining the organization. Two of these were Her Grace Gita Kirti Dasi and Her Grace Dr. Gurusmarna Dasi that took (diksha) initiation from H. H Tamala Krishna Goswami Gurudeva and were thus formally connected to the disciplic succession of Srila Prabhupada.

Being dedicated disciples of H.H Tamala Krishna Goswami Gurudeva and through his serious and strict training the two devotees were showing immense progress and desire to renunciate all their material possessions and fully surrender to Lord Krishna. H.H Tamala Krishna Goswami however wanted his disciples to continue working and cultivating more devotees in Sigatoka where at the time was neither a temple nor many devotees who knew Lord Krishna. In 2000 the sudden departure of Srila Tamala Krishna Goswami Gurudeva form the material world to join Srila Prabhupada left the two disciples in shock and deep sadness. They felt that the desire of their spiritual master must be manifested at any costs and that was the birth of a center in Sigatoka.
